Today was the grand reopening for The Raz, which has added Smokehouse to the end of its name. With the reopening, Hutchinson has a new barbecue joint in town.
A few coworkers and I went in to the former deli to check out the menu’s changes. Admittedly, we were a bit skeptical because we all loved offerings from the former menu. But I am always up for a pulled pork sandwich.
I highly recommend the “Raz.” The sandwich is not your typical pulled pork sandwich. It is served on a pretzel bun and has coleslaw on top of the meat – “as it should be,” a Kristen in the Kitchen Facebook fan said.
Hummus lovers petitioned The Raz Facebook page to keep the appetizer, and they got their way. The hummus is still on the menu, as is the avocado grilled cheese sandwich, to vegetarian Mary Clarkin’s delight.
Ken Stephens was glad one of his favorites was still on the menu – the Turkey Club on a pretzel bun. He ordered the “Jayhawk,” which is turkey brisket with cheese and bacon on a ciabatta bun.
“The food was good, but it didn’t knock my socks off,” Stephens said. “But barbecue rarely does.”
Even so, we’ll definitely be back again.
