Pretty Prairie’s Raquel Stucky won the women’s division of the inaugural Prairie Marathon Half Marathon on Sunday.
Stucky, 37, finished the race in 1 hour, 21 minutes and 21 seconds.
She is a seasoned runner – qualifying for the 2012 Olympic Trials in Houston. Now she is training for Grandma’s Marathon in Duluth, Minn., on June 22.
On Sunday, she was one of 1,700 runners competing in the half marathon.
“I always feel more connected when I run here,” Stucky told the Wichita Eagle. “It’s neat when people know you by name and are cheering for you. That’s always a nice boost.”
In April 2012, Stucky won the inaugural Press Run 5K, a fundraiser for The News’ student journalism mentorship/scholarship program. She said it was her first race back from the Olympic trials.
She continues to up her pace, setting a personal record at the Chicago Marathon in October with a time of 2:42:08. Her pace was at 6:11 per mile, according to First Gear’s Facebook page.
