The Free Comic Book Day was a success.
Almost too big of one for some. The line at Hasting’s Books, Video and Music was huge when the doors opened at 9 a.m.
In 30 minutes, nearly all of the hundreds of comics designated for the Free Comic Book Day on Saturday, were sold out.
Derrick Borecky and Sarah Torrez arrived at the store with their 5-year-old son, Nathan, about 9:38 a.m. to find that there were no more comics.
He said his son was pretty upset.
People were able to take 10 comics for free out of the comics dedicated for Saturday. The comics were first come, first served.
Organizers of the effort to change Hutchinson’s name to Smallville, where Clark Kent, Superman’s alter-ego, were on hand. They gave away copies of the Smallville comics and Hasting’s stuck with the theme by offering “Man of Steel” drinks – red Italian creme soda with blue whipped topping.
