Hutchinson City Manager John Deardoff seized the opportunity to have a little fun at Vice Mayor Cindy Proett’s expense at the end of Tuesday’s City council meeting by briefly showing a picture of Proett dressed in a rather ill-fitting fire fighter’s coat, helmet, oxygen mask and harness.
It was by way of telling the public that Deardoff and Proett are going to Topeka on Thursday to experience some of what it’s like to be a fire fighter. They and other city officials from around the state will be guests of the International Association of Fire Fighters at the fire training center in Topeka.
Proett was photographed while getting fitted for protective gear by the Hutchinson Fire Department.
Give her an axe, and that photo would be perfect for the cover of the 2014 fire fighter’s calendar.
