Fluffy cattle go viral

Here’s a look at one of the national media stories on Iowa farm family’s genetic business and some fluff, no pun intended.

Urban folk, it seems, have just discovered the beauty of cattle.

An Iowa farm family is being bombarded by the latest social media craze – their cattle.

“This week our sires took over the Internet, being called the hottest Social Media Sensation,” the Lautner family posted on their blog about their genetic business.

But, there isn’t anything unusual about these livestock that are bred and raised on the Lautner Farm in Iowa. They are crossbred sires. They are tasty.

Nevertheless, they have hit Facebook and Twitter and the story is being picked up by the national media as Americans discover cattle and that yes, there are cattle shows across the country.

“These cows are not some special breed of cow-cum-teddy bear: They’ve just been all fluffed up thanks to the power of product and blow-dryers,” reports the Today Show. “Styling a cow for showtime can take around 2 hours and requires hairspray to keep all that fuzz in place and oil to make their coats shine. Who knew cattle had so much aesthetic potential?”

Cows? Maybe these newscasters should go back to New York.

Still, those generations removed from the family farm are seeing a glimpse of the ag industry.

Here’s a few social media posts:

Gwen: Oh my gosh, they look SO SOFT.

Carolyn: It’s FLUFFFFFFFFFFFFFY, I want one!

EMAN: I want one for my one bedroom NYC apartment.

Good luck with that, EMAN.

As for the Lautners, they are taking it all in stride, posting “we are excited to offer outstanding sire line up that is recognized all over the the world by all walks of life …As always we are shipping and delivering semen, place your order today!”
