The City of Hutchinson wants to hear your suggestions for naming the new city park under development just southwest of 43rd Avenue and K-61.
Over the next two months, you can click here to go to a forum we’ve created to allow you to make your suggestion and see what others have suggested. Then the City Council will review those and other suggestions and pick a name for the 72-acre park, which is being developed in phases spanning several years. Phase I will be completed this year.
City workers are already constructing restrooms. APAC-Kansas Shears Division has a contract to build the park entrance road and a 26-space parking area and install utilities and storm water drainage for the entire park. When that’s done, this fall a Shane’s Inspiration playground, designed to be enjoyed by children of all abilities and disabilities, will be built through the generosity of former Hutchinson resident Lucinda Piligian and her husband, Craig. Future phases include a longer road looping through the park, additional parking, hike and bike trails, fishing docks at the pond, a pavilion and some non-lighted athletic fields.
