Hutchinson police officers arrive to remove a mannequin from the walking bridge over K-61 and 30th Avenue Nov. 27, 2013. A call came in to the police from a person concerned that the mannequin was traffic hazard.

An armless, naked woman was taken into custody Wednesday evening at the K-61 walking bridge near Union Valley Elementary School.

Officers do not know how long she was there. She was called in as a traffic hazard for passersby who couldn’t help but look up and wonder why she was there gazing north on K-61.

One concerned man took her photo and uploaded it to The News’ Facebook page, saying he hoped she didn’t get frostbite in near-freezing temperatures.

About 5 p.m., three officers arrived. One picked her up from the torso and carried her under his arm.

He didn’t have to be careful – this woman was made of plastic.

“I’ve driven by this intersection several times today and didn’t notice her,” the officer, who refused to give his name, said.

Officers did not know the story of this woman. Where did she come from? Why was she naked? And why was she standing on her tip toes staring into traffic?

As officers removed the plastic woman from the scene, they realized she came apart from the middle. Her torso and bottom were carried the rest of the way by two officers.

The woman will remain in police custody for a while. She was placed into evidence.

No plastic people were questioned in the ordeal. And no, removing naked mannequins is not a common call at the Hutchinson Police Department.

  1. “I drove by several times and didn’t notice” I wonder what else you drove by and didn’t notice and why you want your identity kept secret…

  2. Officer’s name is on his coat…but the writer knew that comment would get someone riled up. Thanks for playing the hate game sucker.
